1: Serving Chicago Hospitals
Each month, volunteer musicians from organizations such as the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and local freelancing professionals join Sharing Notes to provide the healing power of music at:
Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Prentice Women's Hospital Oncology Wards
Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute
La Rabida Children's Hospital
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago
2: Empowering Young Professionals
Sharing Notes is dedicated to building skills of audience and community engagement. Every hospital partnership provides its own unique set of requirements for each musician to effectively serve their audience. Allegra works with Sharing Notes volunteers to develop abilities such as public speaking, program planning and versatility.
Not only does Sharing Notes give young professionals an opportunity to practice career skills, but also reminds the musicians of the power they hold to make a difference.
3: Inspiring Positive Change
"Sharing Notes was definitely a highlight in my time at CCPA.... As a student, I find it's very easy to find yourself stuck in the everyday doldrums.... Participating with Sharing Notes is an instant refresh button in a multitude of ways.
"Ultimately, we are removed from being concerned only for our own selves, and return to that state for which we probably wanted to play in the first place - finding that passion and joy in what we do, yes, but more so, SHARING this incredible art! I remember one of the first times playing at Prentice. A woman came into the room where I was playing quartets. She was so excited to see us! She told us this was the second highlight of her day, along with her son coming for the day to visit. That stuck with me for so long after. Knowing that you made someone's day that much better, while doing something you love... that's the goal." - Meghan Heerey, Sharing Notes Volunteer and 2014 Graduate of the Chicago College of Performing Arts
Fostering healing, understanding and growth in Chicago - one note at a time.
As Founder and Director of Sharing Notes, Allegra has organized over 130 events serving Chicago hospitals with the healing power of live music. While completing her Masters degree at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, Allegra founded the organization to help her conservatory colleagues feel empowered by their gifts with service learning opportunities to provide music for those who did not have easy access to live music.
